Class overview

1st Grade is an exciting year! We will be learning to read, advancing our math skills, perfecting our handwriting, and so much more.

We have take home folders dedicated to strictly notes and graded papers. We are using a reading program called “Rooted in Reading”. They will not have homework. Instead, I will send home a copy of a short story or passage that will be an optional read  and a newsletter to explain the concepts we will be learning that week. There is a link to the weekly newsletter in the top right hand corner of this page. We also will not have spelling words this year. I will be teaching spelling through our phonics lessons.

I will have a planning period two days a week from 9:00-9:50. During this time I will be available for conferences with parents. If you are ever concerned about anything or would like to talk please feel free to call me or visit!

We have snacks each afternoon and I will be sending home a snack calendar each month. There will be a link to the snack calendar in the top right hand corner of this page. We eat lunch early so they are always ready for snacks at the end of the day and they are greatly appreciated!

About me

I have been teaching at Midway for 14 years. Almost all of that in 1st grade. I love it at Midway and look forward each year to seeing all of the milestones my kids reach while in my class!

Outside of school, I am blessed with a big, crazy, happy family that keeps me super busy but I wouldn’t have it any other way!
